 Reflection of lecture 2017/08/08
What I can take away from this week’s class is that the definition of information literacy is not static. It has evolved over the past half century to reflect the changing needs of society. The information literacy of old focused on the ability to read and write print texts, but this does not suffice in the context of modernity. At the present, all modes of communication (the written, oral and audio-visual) are incorporated into multimodal systems which are easily accessible via the Internet and the World Wide Web. So too has the role of the library/librarian evolved as to provide information literacy support for its patron community and to encourage lifelong learning. The modern librarian has a more proactive role to play in the information needs of its patrons. This I have experienced first-hand whilst doing field work during my June vacation break. I have experienced my role as a librarian as incorporating more and more educational aspects, something librarianship is heading to and which I'm looking forward to.

  1. It is good that you emphasise the point about the librarian's role changing as our information landscape evolves. So too do our student needs and expectations.
